Healthcare & AI: From Speech and Images to Diagnosis
On November 24, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., in the Sala dei 146, a meeting on the applications of Artificial Intelligence in medicine, covering early diagnosis, biomedical imaging, and the doctor-patient relationship.
How can Artificial Intelligence support diagnoses and improve communication between doctors and patients? What new possibilities does the analysis of biomedical images and perceptual data open up?
These are some of the topics at the heart of “Healthcare & AI: From Words and Images to Diagnosis. How Artificial Intelligence Is Redefining Medicine,” the event scheduled for Tuesday, November 24, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., in Room 146 at IULM University.
Organized and moderated by Alessandro Bruno, Associate Professor of Computer Science at IULM University and Associate Researcher at ISASI-CNR, the event will bring together academic research, clinical expertise, and the business world through three thematic panels and a concluding roundtable discussion.
The discussion will focus on three areas of research: the analysis of perceptual data to identify possible early signs of cognitive decline; the useof generative AI in biomedical imaging to support radiologists’ diagnostic work; and the applications of Large Language Models (LLMs) to doctor-patient communication, along with a study of radiologists’ visual attention when distinguishing between real and synthetic images.
The event will also provide an opportunity to explore the research activities developed by the University in collaboration with academic, clinical, and corporate partners, including SynbrAIn, the University of Milan, the Policlinico di Milano, the University of Pavia, San Matteo Hospital in Pavia, and the Polytechnic University of Milan.
Speakers will include:
-
Chandra Bortolotto, Associate Professor of Diagnostic Imaging and Radiotherapy at the University of Pavia;
-
Andrea Arighi, Neurologist and Director of the Neurodegenerative Diseases Department at the IRCCS Ca’ Granda Foundation – Maggiore Policlinico Hospital in Milan;
-
Federica Di Berardino, Specialist in Audiology and Phoniatrics and Associate Professor at the University of Milan;
-
Roberto Pagani, CEO and founder of SynbrAIn;
-
Federica Amato, Ph.D. in Computer and Systems Engineering and Healthcare Business Unit Manager at SynbrAIn;
-
Daniele Loiacono, Associate Professor of Information Processing Systems at the Polytechnic University of Milan.
IULM alumni Alessandro Pandini, Agnese Sticco, and Luca Tallarico, as well as undergraduate student Edoardo Marchese, will also contribute to the discussion.
The concluding roundtable will provide an opportunity for dialogue with students and participants to ask questions and discuss the prospects of Artificial Intelligence in supporting clinical skills, diagnosis, and the patient-care relationship.

The event is part of the Badge of Honor initiative. Participation in all three panels of the event counts as completion of an honor activity.
